Space
YIEODO is a world-roving exhibition space that transcends existing boundaries
and connects the world through culture and art. It is like an artistic diaspora wandering around the everyday city. It is a new cultural and artistic platform that tours various cities, starting from Kyoto and including Bangkok, Thailand.
Considering that it is an exhibition space that travels to different cities every year, flexibility was prioritized in furniture design. Stools used as chairs, coffee tables, or spatial objects were actively introduced. Vertical units that store souvenirs such as art books, T-shirts, and eco bags were also customized.
In addition, spatial elements that visualize the atmosphere of Space Yieodo were deliberately designed. The quiet building in Kyoto where the 2024 exhibition and event are being held is located between Kyoto Station and the Kamo River. Like other old buildings in Kyoto, the building is small and the interior is relatively dark and narrow. Since the reddish interior wood finish, dark mauve floor finish, and yellow lighting could not be changed, we studied colors that could harmonize with the existing space and provide vitality. Imagining the atmosphere of Space Yieodo, colors were selected that visualized Yieodo's clear sky, puffy clouds, refreshing pond and stream, grass and lush coniferous forest, and bright flowers and fruits.
스페이스 이어도는 세상을 하나로 잇는 문화예술이 담긴 세계 유랑형 전시공간이다. 일상 속을 유목하는 예술적 디아스포라를 추구한다. 교토를 시작으로 태국 방콕 등 여러 도시를 순회하는 새로운 문화예술 플랫폼이다.
매년 다른 도시를 유랑하는 전시공간임을 고려하여 가구 디자인에 있어 가변성을 우선적으로 고려했다. 의자, 커피 테이블, 혹은 공간적 오브제로 다양한 활용이 가능한 스툴들이 적극적으로 유입되었다. 예술서적과 티셔츠, 가방 등 기념품들을 수납할 수 있는 수직적 유닛들도 커스텀 제작되었다.
또한 디자인에 있어서 스페이스 이어도의 분위기를 공간적인 요소들로 시각화하고자 하였다. 2024년 전시와 행사가 이루어지는 교토의 고즈넉한 건물은 교토역과 가모강 사이에 위치하는데, 교토의 여느 오래된 건물들처럼 규모가 작으며, 실내는 상대적으로 좁고 어두운 편이다. 붉은빛이 감도는 실내 나무마감재와 짙은 고등색의 바닥마감재, 노란색 조명은 바꿀 수 없었기에, 기존의 공간과 조화를 이루면서도 활력을 줄 수 있는 색상들을 스터디했다. 스페이스 이어도에 대한 주관적인 해석과 상상을 통해 이어도의 푸른 하늘과 뭉개구름, 청량한 연못과 맑은 개울, 파릇파릇한 잔디와 우거진 침엽수림, 화사한 꽃과 과실 등을 시각화한 색상을 선택했다.
