MMA Analog atelier
DamDam is a compact house for a couple, their twins, and two cats, designed with solid exterior walls to ensure privacy on a small site surrounded by taller buildings.
Working within the constraints of the parking layout, the functions of each floor were carefully separated, and the circulation was precisely planned to maximise the usability of the interior spaces.
The living room on the first floor is set at a slightly lowered level, while a double-height window and a small garden on the east side create a seamless relationship between the interior and exterior. A void in front of this window encourages sectional communication between floors, and the cats often observe the family’s daily life from the balustrade on the second floor. The third floor houses a pair of symmetrical rooms for the twins, while the fourth floor contains the couple’s private space and a studio. The rooftop features a transparent curved mass that creates a bright and friendly atmosphere.
Overall, the building appears as a composition of stacked solid concrete masses that envelop the interior. On the southern side, frosted glass blocks mitigate direct lines of sight, while the windows on the east and west elevations gradually increase in size as they ascend, in response to the functions of each floor.
담담은 부부와 쌍둥이 자녀, 두 마리 고양이를 위한 소형 주택이다.
협소한 대지와 주변의 높은 건물들로 인해 사적 공간을 확보하는 단단한 외벽이 필요했다. 주차장 배치의 제약 속에서 층별 기능을 세심하게 분리하고 효율적인 동선을 계획해 내부 공간 활용을 극대화했다.
1층 거실은 바닥 레벨을 낮춰 개방감을 확보하고, 동측에 두 개 층 높이의 큰 창과 작은 정원을 두어 실내·외가 자연스럽게 이어지도록 했다. 창 앞의 보이드는 층간의 단면적 소통을 유도하며, 고양이들은 2층 난간에서 가족의 일상을 내려다보곤 한다. 3층에는 쌍둥이를 위한 대칭형 방을, 4층에는 부부 공간과 작업실을 두었다. 옥탑은 고양이들이 가장 좋아하는 공간으로, 투명한 곡선 매스로 밝고 친근한 분위기를 연출했다.
파사드는 내외부의 요구를 조율하며 완성되었다. 전체적 인상은 단단한 콘크리트 덩어리들이 적층되어 내부를 감싸는 모습이다. 남측에는 직접적인 시선의 개입을 고려해 프로스트 마감의 글라스 블록을 사용했고, 동·서측 창문은 내부 기능에 맞춰 층을 오를수록 점차 커지도록 배치했다. 또한 작은 방이지만 답답하지 않도록 좋은 장면만을 신중히 차경했다.
여러 난관 끝에 완성된 이 집이 가족에게 단단하고 따스한 보금자리가 되길 바란다
